Study Skills
Have a Schedule - Set aside a regular time each day to study and do your homework.
Good Lighting - Make sure you have a well lit area to work.
Clear Area - Make sure you have a work space that is free of clutter and items that may distract you.
Comfort - Make sure you have an area to work that is comfortable and allows you to focus. Some students prefer to work at a table/desk with a chair and others are able to work on a couch or bed. Use whatever works for you and allows you to get your work done!
Stay Organized - Staying organized to the KEY to studying and doing well in school! Staying organized will make school less stressful!
Repetition - The more you go over your information, the better you will remember! Practice, practice, practice!!!
Flash Cards - Flash cards are a tool used to remember things like vocabulary but you can use them for almost anything! You can make them on your own on notecards or use an app like Quizlet!
Concentrate - Stay focused! Cut out distractions around you.
Don't Procrastinate - Do NOT wait until the last minute to study or do your work! This increases stress and you are less likely to remember what you learned. Have a schedule and map out a study and workload plan.
Math - The first step is to understand the problem. What is given? What is it asking? What is wanted? For extra help, use a resource like Khan Academy to watch video clips on how to solve a math problem.
Reading - Look for the main thoughts in each paragraph. Look for the main idea in each chapter. Use post it notes to mark a certain number of pages to read each day to set a daily reading pacing guide.
Practice - Rewrite important ideas in your on words. Create a study guide and a practice test to quiz yourself. Use Quizlet for easy practice quizzes.
Resources - Get additional information and help using other resources - books, search engines, apps, video tutorials. Email your teachers when you have questions and need help! They are your number one resource for help!
