Things students can do to explore career paths:
- Use your Navaiance app:
- Take the Career Cluster Survey
- Research different careers......pay scales across the country, skills needed, schooling required
- Research colleges
- Watch Road Trip Nation video clips
- Explore future classes at the ILC, the Hub, and Tolles Technical Center.
- Get involved in school activities, and clubs.
- Get involved in community activities and/or sports
- Explore your passions, interests and skills
- Try your best in school.
- Recognize your best skills in school. (For example, I am really good at Math.)
Things Parents can do to help students explore career paths:
- Listen and encourage your child in different activities and hobbies.
- Praise your child for their effort as well as their accomplishments.
- Show an interest in and stress the importance of school.
- Encourage good work habits at home and positively reinforce those habits.
- Encourage their participation in service oriented community activities.
- Allow them to make choices on what they can buy by using guided money management.
- Start talking to your teen about their interests and skills and their goals for the future.
- Encourage your teen to make independent decisions and explore all kinds of post-secondary educational opportunities.
- Give them economic responsibilities if they are working part-time outside the home.
- Keep a positive attitude and be patient as their decision-making abilities evolve.
- Encourage your child to explore careers and schools through their Naviance app on their ipad.
